Back in August, Amber found a caterpillar in her garden and she donated it to my Caterpillar Condo. It joined a couple monarch caterpillars already in residence. A bit of searching on the internet identified the new resident as a black swallowtail.

A while later, after the monarchs had already moved on to the next stage of development, my little bright green caterpillar set about moving on as well.

And for the entire winter has hibernated in what is called a diapause while I have patiently waited for spring. Well … WAKEY WAKEY!
